Develop a defensible interpretation
A strong interpretation is specific enough to argue and supported by well-chosen evidence. Students should analyse patterns across a text rather than relying on one isolated quotation or simply identifying techniques.
Control the whole argument
Essays and persuasive pieces need a clear central position, logically sequenced paragraphs and explanations that connect evidence to the contention. Counterarguments or alternative interpretations can be useful when they genuinely deepen the reasoning.
