Worksheet tasks

For drawings, use the response space or a separate sheet. Adults: accept usual communication supports and assess the information and reasoning, not drawing neatness.

Task 1

A printed swimming-club leaflet says: “Pool club. Sessions: Mondays, 4 pm. Bring: towel and goggles. Meeting place: pool foyer.” Write the heading or subheading you would use to find what to pack. List the two items and explain how the label helps.

Use Bring. Pack a towel and goggles. The subheading groups the equipment, separate from the time and meeting place.

Check the Bring label, both items, and an explanation of grouping. Accept equivalent wording; do not count the pool foyer as equipment.

Task 2

Read this static page sketch: Home links to Visit and Learn. Visit links to Getting here and Opening hours. Getting here says “Enter at the Cedar Street gate”. Write the path from Home to the gate information, then report the gate.

Home → Visit → Getting here. Enter at the Cedar Street gate.

Require the ordered path and exact street. A written route, labelled drawing or supported oral explanation is acceptable. This is a sketch, not a claim that a website was clicked.

Task 3

A menu sketch says “Workshops [open]: Painting; Clay; Weaving”. Below it is an ordinary link “All workshops”. Explain what the drop-down groups. Add one direct link that would let a reader reach Clay without using the menu.

It groups workshop choices. Add a direct link labelled Clay workshop leading to the same Clay destination.

Require the workshop grouping and a destination-matching alternative link. Do not claim All workshops directly opens Clay; it is only an alternative starting route.

Task 4

A club page has three links all labelled “More”. They lead to session dates, a venue map and a materials list. Write three clearer labels. Explain how one helps a new member choose a destination.

Session dates; Venue map; Materials list. Materials list tells a new member where to check what to bring.

Require all three destinations matched, distinct useful labels and one explanation tied to a reader purpose. Accept natural equivalent labels.

Task 5

Compare these online pages about the same puppet show. Page A: “WHEN: Friday, 5 pm. WHERE: Hall 2. TICKETS: $4.” Page B: “Our club began last year. The show is Friday at 5 pm in Hall 2. We make our own puppets. Tickets cost $4.” You need the place and cost quickly. Explain which layout helps and cite a feature from each.

A’s WHERE and TICKETS labels lead directly to Hall 2 and $4. B contains both details too, but they sit among club information in a paragraph.

Require the correct place and cost, A’s specific grouping and B’s mixed paragraph. Do not accept a claim that B omits the details or that layout proves accuracy.

Task 6

A nature-centre page says “Follow the path from the entrance to the pond”. Design a small map sketch with a labelled Entrance, Pond and connecting path. Write a caption. Explain where you would place the map on the page.

A labelled Entrance and Pond joined by a path. Caption: Follow the path from the entrance to the pond. Put the map beside the matching directions.

Inspect the actual drawing or an accessible spatial description: both named places, a connecting route, relevant caption and placement beside directions. Artistic skill is not assessed; no real outdoor route is required.

Task 7

Create a page plan for a fictional seed swap using all these details: “Saturday, 11 am”; “school courtyard”; “bring labelled seed packets”; “an adult helps at the table”. Include a headline, two useful subheadings and two clearly named links to imagined detail pages. Explain how a visitor finds when and where to go.

Headline: Class seed swap. Visit details: Saturday, 11 am; school courtyard. Taking part: bring labelled seed packets; an adult helps at the table. Links: Seed packet labels; Courtyard map. Visit details groups time and place.

Require all four details, two meaningful groups, a relevant headline, two destination-predicting links and explanation. Accept other sensible layouts. Label it a fictional plan; no publication is required.

Task 8

Two pages explain making the same paper fan. A shows numbered steps with a folding diagram beside each. B begins with finished-fan photos and gives the steps in one paragraph below. Explain which features help a beginner follow the method and which help someone choose a colour idea. Suggest one change to B that keeps its useful photos.

Adult guidance and one possible response

A’s sequence and matching diagrams help a beginner follow the method. B’s finished photos help with colour ideas. Put B’s instructions under a Making the fan heading, with steps separated, while keeping the photos in an Ideas section.

Require both purposes linked to actual features plus a specific improvement that preserves the photos. Do not require one page to be best for every purpose.
