With an adult select an attributed, permitted image of a textile or artwork motif studied in class. Trace one motif and test a mirror line and a half-turn. Record actual matches or mismatches.
Task 5
Observe a permitted leaf or flower on Country/Place without damaging it. Sketch it, mark a possible line or centre and record three matching or differing features.
Task 6
Draw a design using three identical motifs equally spaced around a centre, each turned by one-third of a full turn from the previous one. Test and record a one-third-turn match.
Task 7
Draw a square with a single off-centre coloured dot. Test two of the plain square’s mirror lines on the decorated picture and explain any lost symmetry.
Task 8
Create two pictures: one with a demonstrated mirror line and one with a half-turn match but no mirror line. Use tracing or a mirror to record your tests.

Task 1
Answer: The rectangle matches; the equilateral triangle does not match after a half-turn.
Inspect both actual tracing tests, fixed centres and accurate outline comparison; a full-turn test alone is insufficient.
Task 2
Answer: Each pair is equally far on opposite sides of the line and at the same height.
Inspect actual completed picture and four correct point pairs; equal area alone is insufficient.
Task 3
Answer: Designs vary; each feature and colour must have a reflected partner.
Require actual saved digital pattern, marked line and evidence of complete matching; if there was a mismatch, record the repair.
Task 4
Answer: Results depend on the specific motif; either test may fail.
Inspect source/attribution, selected motif, tracing and both evidence-based judgements. Do not generalise to every artwork in the tradition.
Task 5
Answer: Natural examples may have approximate symmetry, with different petal lengths or damaged edges.
Require an actual observation, three comparisons and a justified exact/approximate/neither conclusion, following local permission and guidance.
Task 6
Answer: Identical motifs in corresponding positions and orientations reproduce the design after one-third turn.
Inspect created design, equal spacing, correct orientation changes and a traced or digital test; simply placing three unrelated motifs is insufficient.
Task 7
Answer: A line fails if it moves the dot to a position without a matching dot; results depend on the chosen dot and lines.
Inspect the actual dot position, two distinct line tests and specific explanations; do not assume every line necessarily fails.
Task 8
Answer: A plain non-square rectangle works for the first; a slanted parallelogram that is neither rectangle nor rhombus works for the second.
Inspect both created examples and tests; for the second, check plausible candidate mirror lines fail and a centred half-turn succeeds.
