Repeating Patterns
A repeating pattern has a unit that occurs again and again in the same order. Find the smallest repeating unit before deciding what comes next.
Key ideas
- identify a repeating unit
- continue AB and ABC patterns
- copy a pattern
- find a missing item
- describe what repeats
Worked example: red, blue, red, blue has the unit red–blue.
Common trap: Do not use the whole displayed sequence as the repeating unit if a smaller unit repeats.
