What Students Will Learn
- Use senses safely to observe the natural world.
- Recognise that scientists use tools as well as their senses.
- Explore different ways observations can be recorded.
- Understand that First Nations Australians gain knowledge through careful observation.
- Notice how scientists ask questions and document what they observe.
- Pose simple questions about plants, animals and environments.
Teaching Activities

- How could you record what you found?
- What do you wonder?
- What question could a scientist ask?
Simple Assessment Ideas
- Observe students during practical activities and discussions.
- Ask students to draw, match, sort, point, demonstrate or explain.
- Use a short exit task linked to the curriculum code.
- Allow an adult to record a child's spoken response when needed.
