Perimeter and Area of Shapes and Enclosed Spaces (AC9M4M02)
recognise ways of measuring and approximating the perimeter and area of shapes and enclosed spaces, using appropriate formal and informal units
Choose a learning activity. Practice and Test use short shuffled attempts. Repeat quiz practice to access more of the full question bank.
Unit focus
- Perimeter measures the whole boundary using length units. Area measures the enclosed surface using square units or other equal area units.
- Count boundary lengths for perimeter and covered tiles for area. Fit area units without gaps or overlaps; combine part units when a boundary cuts through a tile.
- Choose formal or informal units that suit the space. State when a result is approximate, and explain your measuring method.
