Children enjoy learning about shapes and patterns when they can build, sort and describe what they see.
Give children objects to sort by colour, size or shape. This builds early mathematical language and helps them notice similarities and differences.
Repeated patterns can be introduced using beads, blocks, sounds or movement. Ask children to continue the pattern and explain why it works.
