How to Teach Foundation Science at Home

Foundation science works best when children are encouraged to look closely, ask simple questions and explore the world around them.

Start with everyday objects

Plants, leaves, rocks, water, bubbles and household materials are all excellent science starters. Children can compare, sort and describe what they notice.

Ask simple questions

Questions such as “What do you notice?” and “What do you think will happen?” help children begin scientific thinking without using difficult vocabulary.
